Steve Watkins

Before joining Rare in June, 2009, Steve was Director of the Global Protected Areas Strategy for The Nature Conservancy, responsible for development, implementation and coordination of the Conservancy’s overall work in support of the Program of Work on Protected Areas. Prior to that role, Steve was Director of TNC's Office of the COO, responsible for staffing the Executive Team, overseeing key management and budgeting processes and special projects. Steve has a B.A. (Hons) and an M.A. in Economics from Cambridge University, and degree in Banking and Finance and an M.B.A. from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management. Before joining TNC, Steve pursued a wide ranging career in business and management, encompassing stints as a journalist for The Financial Times, various management positions for Barclays Bank in London and New York, establishing his own menswear distribution business and working as a business strategy consultant in London and the San Francisco Bay Area.
