Rare and its local partner organizations around the world have received a number of prestigious awards as recognition for conservation work. Here are some of the most recent awards:

Rare Wins Social Capitalist Award
Rare was named one of Fast Company magazine’s Top 25 Social Capitalists in 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008 -- the only environmental group on the list. The award recognizes entrepreneurial spirit and savvy business practices in the nonprofit arena. Fast Company calls its award recipients “the Googles, Amazons, and Microsofts of the social sector.”

Community Tours Sian Ka’an and La Ruta Moskitia Named Condé Nast “Green List” Honorees
Community Tours Sian Ka’an, a Rare Enterprise program in Mexico, garnered a spot on Condé Nast Traveler magazine’s “Green List.” in 2005. The following year, the Rare-supported ecotourism enterprise La Ruta Moskitia made the prestigious list. The Green List recognizes travel destinations and programs that provide equal benefits to the consumer, the local economy, and conservation.

Indonesian Pride Campaign Manager Recognized by UN and Time magazine
Rare Pride campaign manager Tisna Nando of Indonesia was one of 20 winners of the 2005 Prize for Women’s Creativity in Rural Life, offered by the Women’s World Summit Foundation, an international humanitarian organization affiliated with the United Nations. She was also recognized by Time magazine in 2006 as one of five Asian "eco-heros."  Nando was recognized for her dedication to environmental education as well as for the assistance she has provided communities devastated by the 2004 tsunami in Banda Aceh, Indonesia.

Mexico’s Manantlán Institute Honored by President Vicente Fox
In November 2005 the Intermunicipal Alliance for the Conservation of the Ayuquila River—a project facilitated by the Manantlán Institute—received the prestigious National Award to a Municipal Project from Mexican President Vicente Fox. The project received $25,000 to contribute to the Ayuquila River Endowment. Rare is proud to work with the Manantlán Institute, which is based at the University of Guadalajara’s South Coast Campus where the Pride program maintains one of its three training centers.
